SSAN Truncation

The IRS has recently initiated a pilot program that allows for social security numbers printed on 1098, 1099, and 5498 forms to be truncated. The rules apply to SSANs only, not EINs. There is a new checkbox on the PRINT OPTIONS screen that implements this capability. When checked, SSANs will be printed as XXX-XX-1234. This option is available on recipient copies only. All other copies will print the full SSAN.
1099-G Form Change

The IRS has recently updated the recipient instructions for form 1099-G. The forms produced by the YES 2009 software reflect these changes.
YES 2009 Now Available

The YES software for 2009 is now available for download and we have begun accepting orders. Just click the DOWNLOAD TRIAL button on this page. The download is a trial version. If you wish to begin using the software, place your order and request a registration key from support@newportwave.com. Update letters for the 2009 YES software will be mailed on Oct 1st. The software CDs will ship on Monday, Nov 16th. Please note that ALL credit card orders must be placed through this web site. We no longer accept credit card orders via fax.
IRS Notice

The IRS has mailed a notice to all electronic filers regarding a data field requirement for 1099 combined filing files. The YES software for 2009 (and previous years) complies with this requirement.

2009 Filing Deadlines

Because January and February end on a Sunday in 2010, these deadlines are in effect:
- February 1 - forms due to recipients
- March 1 - if filing on paper, Copy A forms due to IRS and SSA
- March 31 - if filing electronically, electronic files due to the IRS and SSA
Renew SSA Passwords Now

SSA passwords for electronic filing expire every year. We suggest that you renew your SSA password now before the year end busy season. To renew your password, just log onto the SSA web site and follow the menus.

Edge Document Solutions, of Indianapolis, has partnered with NewportWave to provide the YES W2 and 1099 software to Edge clients. By replacing its previous in-house software with YES, Edge brings expanded software capabilities to its customers. Edge products are particularly popular among school districts. As a result of this partnership, virtually every public school district in Ohio will be using the Year End Solutions software for W2 and 1099 processing.
